About East Meadow, New York
East Meadow's Community
East Meadow is a hamlet of about 38,000 residents (ZIP 11554) in the middle of the Town of Hempstead, named for the east meadow of the old Hempstead Plains grazing lands. It grew into a full-scale suburb in the 1950s and remains one of central Nassau’s busiest communities.
Eisenhower Park
East Meadow’s defining landmark is Eisenhower Park, more than 900 acres of golf courses, ballfields, trails, and the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre’s summer concerts, one of the largest public parks in the New York metropolitan area, sitting right on the hamlet’s northern edge.
Homes and Neighborhoods
The housing stock is postwar Nassau through and through: capes, splits, ranches, and colonials on curving suburban streets, with busier corridors along Hempstead Turnpike, Front Street, and East Meadow Avenue carrying the hamlet’s shops and restaurants.

The East Meadow Union Free School District runs through East Meadow High School and W. Tresper Clarke High School, and the Nassau University Medical Center’s tower on Hempstead Turnpike is a county landmark and one of its biggest employers.
