About Sea Cliff, New York
A Victorian Village on the Bluffs
Sea Cliff is an incorporated village of about 5,000 residents (ZIP 11579) perched on the bluffs above Hempstead Harbor in the Town of Oyster Bay. It began in the 1870s as a Methodist camp-meeting colony, and the gingerbread cottages and grand Victorians that followed still climb its steep lanes, giving Sea Cliff a look no other Long Island village can match.
An Artists' Village
Sea Cliff has long drawn artists, musicians, and writers, and the village wears it well: galleries and cafes along Sea Cliff Avenue, the village museum, and the Mini Mart street fair that takes over the avenue each October.
Homes
The housing stock is the village’s treasure: Victorians, shingled cottages, and turn-of-the-century homes on terraced streets, many with harbor views and nearly all with the woodwork and wraparound porches of their era.
The Waterfront
Sea Cliff Beach and its pavilion sit at the base of the bluffs on Hempstead Harbor, and Memorial Park’s sunset views over the water are a village institution.
Location
Glen Cove wraps the village to the north, Glen Head and Glenwood Landing sit behind it, and the LIRR’s Oyster Bay Branch stops at Sea Cliff station on the village’s edge.
